Websites and Weddings

I don't often get out to see our brides on the day of their wedding where I'm stuck in the shop sorting out their reception arrangements and making sure the next load of deliveries are ready for when the drivers get back, but on Saturday I was lucky enough to go and out and deliver the brides bouquet and I am so very glad I did. She actually screamed with excitement when she saw it. Such a great feeling to know that something I have made has also made someone else's day. Even as I walked away from the house on the way back to the shop I could still hear her squealing and getting her bridesmaids to have a look at what she said were "the most stunning flowers I've ever seen". Makes all the long hours, early mornings, late nights and weekend working worth it. And thankfully the rain clouds disappeared just as she would have been going into church. I am sure they had a wonderful day and congratulations to them.  Sadly I won't get out and about this weekend as I have 3 weddings to get ready and then we are off to the local fayre/show on Monday so I will be up here on Sunday preparing everything for down there but I hope this weekends brides are as happy as last weekends were. :o)

Ooh. Now the website.  In the 5 years we've had it up and running we've never set up online ordering. There can be so many issues with it when it comes to somebody wanting a certain flower not shown on the site, or hoping they can sneak in a same day delivery well after the cut off time, but we have finally bitten the bullet and Clive is currently working on his own version of online ordering that should minimise all that hassle so watch this space.

All day fiddling

Well it feels like I've spent all day fiddling with different web based bits and pieces. Now idea how I've managed to fit in all the usual flowery work as well. And it's still only 3pm.  I guess it just goes to show that the more you have to do the more you can get done.  I've updated the FB shop pages, sorted out our Twitter account and twitpics (there's a link on the right to follow us on there if you wish) as well as watermarking all the photos of our work that is going to be placed on the different sites. Scary to think I would have to watermark them all but you would be amazed (or maybe you wouldn't) about all the Florists that use photos of other peoples work on their sites. I myself have had some of my sympathy tributes used by another shop before. I have no problem if someone asks me if they could use the photo (providing they let their customers know that they never made it themselves) but to just take them and pass them off as their own disgusts me. Their poor customers. Going into their shops and seeing tributes that they themselves may want to order without knowing the shop they are in hasn't made the tribute themselves and may have no clue how to whatsoever.  And there are a lot more out there using other peoples work than you might think. So please be careful when ordering from shops that don't have their photographs watermarked with either their name (check all photos have the same name) or with the shop name. You may think you've picked a great shop and in fact they could be attrocious and passing off someone else's good work as their own.

Welcome

Welcome to our first post.  As you can see from our profile we are a florist based in Fareham, Hants UK.  The shop is called Moonstones Ltd and we tried blogging as that for a while but our customers found it hard to find us (they kept missing out the Ltd bit) so then we tried Moonstones Florist but after much research (many hours spent trawling the internet) we realised that most people were looking for Florist fareham or Fareham florist so we decided to change our website domain (actually we added to them and still have the originals) and our blog address. Hopefully now our customers will be able to find us easier and keep up to date with all we have going on.  We did consider adding a blog page to our website itself but we have so many other great things on there we didn't want to overcrowd it and so moved homes here where the lovely people at google allow us the chance to share with you all. Please feel free to contact us or share with us any thoughts or feedback you may have (good or bad) as we are always striving to achieve the best.  I hope you are and will be able to continue the journey with us as the business grows from strength to strength.
